Dr Longo takes on the Birkie! (American Birkiebiener)
[hr]It was an buttocks kicker!!! The distance is 51k which is about 32 miles. It’s the largest xc ski marathon in North America! 4 largest in the world! It’s rated in the top 3 races in the world. It was probably the hardest thing I’ve done so far, but…It was an butt kicker!!! The distance is 51k which is about 32 miles. It was probably the hardest thing I’ve done so far, but it was a “mission accomplished” I don’t know what I expected but in my mind I Won! The weather was good, but the conditions were challenging. I swear the whole corse is up hill! Everyone shared a real sense of accomplishment!
[hr]This is the last place finisher. The snow mobile behind him follows him in and makes sure the course is cleared. People came out and lined the streets to applaud his efforts. It turns out that this participant was nearly 80 years old and this was his 40th Birkie! He was one of the founding members that brought the American Birkiebiener to Hayward.
